Be Yourself! Express Yourself!

Art came into Leina’s life when she worked with young children who had learning challenges many years ago. She got to know the children and discovered ways to help and support them by watching them draw, paint and move and by listening to their stories.

Later on, she was inspired to draw mandalas as a meditative exercise to deepen her spiritual practice. A whole new world opened up, her inner world of imagination and aha moments, to explore and express. As a dancer and storyteller she often used spontaneous drawings to enhance her performances. As time gone by, the creativity expanded to mixed media, painting, pen & ink drawing, art quilting, nature photography and writing. The Spirit of each artwork, alive and present, tells its own story visually and in writing. The excitement and fun from playing with the creative process keep her love for it going strong.

In this website, she shares the expressions of her musings through art, movement and writing. She affectionately refers  to her work as Beloved Creations.

Through years of spiritual practice and having fun with creative play, Leina developed a form of self therapy combining art, movement, writing and nature. which she calls it ‘The Process’.  In order to express what IS in the moment, she had to figure out ways to practice spontaneity like that of a child. The creative process of doing a drawing, or a painting, or a poem or moving to music, helps her to accept and embrace what she sees and feels about herself, become stronger, have better clarity, be more centered and confident to face the next gift life has to offer. The Process produces quick, powerful, healing and transformative results.”

In the Animal Communication category, stories  illustrate appreciation and fondness between humans and animals. Through years of communicating with animals, Leina recognizes them as clear examples of living only in the present moment. She has come to believe that the animals’ sole purpose on Earth is to love us. As she cares for an animal, the gratitude and love in return is immensely felt. She would often say, “After all we and the animals are co-inhabitants of this earth planet.”

Leina keeps a vegan diet and lifestyle as a way of practicing compassion towards all life.

Poppy   Girl

Poppies, bright red ones, were blooming in our neighborhood. The brightness of the red overpowered its surroundings. During that time, one of my neighbors, a young widower, father of six years old Sarah, asked me to watch over Sarah in the afternoons. I called her Little Redhead. One of the things we enjoyed was going for walks looking for wild rabbits. One day Sarah spotted a red poppy laying broken on the pavement. In her cautious manner, she bent down and picked it up ever so tenderly. Holding the long stem up, her usual downcast eyes had to lift up to see the flower. After gazing at it for a time, she started to take notice of the blue sky, white clouds that resembled angel’s wings, flying geese, even treetops as she giggled describing them to me. When we got back to the house later, I put the flower in a vase. Sarah drew a picture of herself holding her daddy’s hand standing on the ground and her mommy with wings hovering over the sky. She then finished it off by drawing a big red poppy in the centre and said, “It’s a magic wand.”

From   Sea   To   Sky

Once upon the time an Orca was born in the waters of Juan De Fuca Strait. A great celebration took place. Even the seagulls were invited to the happy occasion. Young Orca was a curious and adventurous little fellow who often roamed the sea in search of uncharted territories for fun. After some time he became bored with ocean life. He would surface to visit with the seagulls and wondered about life in the sky. “My seagull friends look so carefree up there. Why can’t I fly? There must be a way.” The day came when young Orca wanted to ask the seagulls to teach him to fly. The sea was especially rough. Young Orca witnessed the seagulls caught in a terrible storm, being blown about barely hanging on. “Go home!” They yelled. “Go home where you are safe!” Young Orca quickly dove down making his way home where he belonged. And  that felt good and right. From then on, a change came over him, instead of complaining, the young Orca went about his days by being helpful while singing a happy tune.

Catching   Hearts

Have you ever experienced a song coming to mind out of the blue and you can’t help but sing and hum it over and over for hours on end? Well, this song by the Beatles did it to me one day while sunning on Hookena Beach, Hawaii. “All you need is love, la, la, la, la.” “All you need is love, la, la, la, la.” “All you need is love, love, love is all you need.” In a small rowboat a distance away, an old Hawaiian busily sprinkling a kind of homemade gruel into the clear emerald water. We’ve met before on this beach when he told me the story. “My wife and I used to come here everyday to feed the fish. She was a big fan of sea life. Instead of catching them, she believed fish are hungry for love just like the rest of us. And they love this stuff we feed them. My wife is gone now. I will keep it up for her and the fish for as long as I am able.

Veganism and Recipes

This world belongs to everyone, including the animals. Therefore our animal friends have just as much right to live in peace and harmony on this earth planet as we humans do. I have been a strict vegetarian and then a vegan for over 20 years. I am fit as a fiddle, full of energy and vitality.

Animal Communication

Art by Laurence Leong

Animals are here on earth to bless and love us humans. Countless animal friends have risked their lives for us. Their keen senses are so sharp that they know something’s about to happen way before we do such as earthquakes, fires, accidents, etc. They do all they can to warn us and help us if we only listen. Whenever we are stressed or in pain, the animals near us feel it right away, even take it on to help alleviate our suffering.   And they are comforting and fun to have around.

Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”
